ABOUT ME

Page

I am a Class of ‘69 Baby Boomer, a native of Pennsylvania, and now a resident of Georgia. Inheriting my church musician parents’ talent, I earned degrees in music education and taught public school music before earning a second master’s in anthropology and a PhD in sociology. As a university professor, I focused my research on the ways our spirituality influences our aging process.

My interest in writing goes back to the fourth grade, when I wrote my first “novel”– a spin-off from my favorite TV show, Bonanza. My enthusiasm for older adults began as a child, having grown up in my grandparents’ home and following my father to “Senior” choir rehearsal every week.

After varied careers from public school music teacher to Certified Nursing Assistant, I recently retired from my 15-year academic career in the field of gerontology. Blending my experience n gerontology with my Christian beliefs and my love of writing, I now write inspirational devotionals for 50+ women. I’ve published several online magazine articles and currently write as a Contributing Author to the online Christian Women’s magazine, LivingBetter50.

My first book, The Spiritual Fitness Check-up for the 50-something Woman, was published by Healthy Life Press in 2010 (www.healthylifepress.com). In December, 2014, my second book will be published by Anaiah Press, Aging Gracefully with the 23rd Psalm.

My hope is to encourage all 50+ women to rely on God’s grace as we travel through “the second half of life.” Follow me on Twitter @svk50plus.

God bless your 50+ years!.
